F$&k

Not a CEL but a transmission error. My very first in 30k of VW ownership, awe!!

Clearly I’m being punished for not choosing God’s transmission. Who know though, it drives fine but none of my steering wheel controls work. Weird.

Off to the shop we goooooo!

It looks like you have an orange power unit. Better get that checked out.

Sounds like a CAN problem. Going to guess if it can’t communicate with the paddle shifters it throws that error. If that is the case you’re kinda lucky, when my Volvo’s steering wheel control module freaked out the blinkers, wipers, and sprayers all went on high and I got messages for TC failure, steering failure, ABS failure, etc. It was “fun”.

Uh oh . I’m considering a DSG, so I’m curious to see how this goes...

Kinda what I was thinking as well. Not sure if my after market paddles would have anything to do with it but we shall see.

I’m just happy it happen now as I’m out of bumper to bumper warranty in 2 months.

I’ll be sure to update since there’s so many MK7’s on Oppo.

I’ve been very happy overall with DSG (besides missing manual some days) and don’t think this will be a big deal.

Same thing at similar mileage in my S3. Went away, dealer didn’t know. Didn’t come back but I sold it a few months later

Weird. What’s odd is it came on after doing a semi emergency brake after a Jeep swerved into my lane. I kinda figure it’ll disappear as soon as I make an appointment

Mine was after setting the e brake on a really cold night.

I guess this was as good as any a time to join Oppo. I had a similar issue in my MK7 TDI and it was the clock spring in the steering column that broke. It’s covered under an extended VW warranty.

The s ymptoms mine had we're a clicking noise when turning, no function of any of the steering wheel controls including the paddles and horn, and the airbag and transmission error lights were on. Do you have any of these other issues showing up?

No clicking noises that I’m aware of and the horn still works. All cruise, audio, and center display buttons aren’t functioning. Paddles too but the console shifter works fine.

So sounds like it could be that. It just oddly happened after aggressively braking to avoid a collision today

Mine happened at roughly 50-60k miles. I was just backing out of a parking space. If your airbag light isn't on though, then it's most likely something else.

Yeah no airbag light, just the one in the above picture. Seems like it some similar type issue

My washer fluid light is on. That’s kind of weird; I never had something like that happen with my RAV4.

Welcome to VW ownership: where you hold off every question until the free 10,000 mile service.

Also, do you have CarPlay? The screen looks like the 2017 Alltrack with the buttons on the side, but I’m not certain on the screens for 2015-2016 cars.

I’ve had that only happen on rental cars but I don’t use my fluid washer too much.

Yep 2016 + has CarPlay. That was one of my big things I wanted with this car and I love it. Would love the 8” screen for the 7.5

I have the 8”, and it’s a very smooth design. They’re touch buttons instead of older looking physical buttons. The 2017s looked so ugly with those buttons, and almost all the used ones are 2017s. Unlike Uconnect, which still has the Uconnect apps for climate, etc. under the CarPlay screen, CarNet’s CarPlay takes up the entire screen. Looking at other vehicles’ screens, I realize just how lucky I am.

Those newer Jeeps with the 7” screen become even smaller thanks to how CarPlay works. Even on the 8.4”, it still looks cheaper than the VW design. Speaking of 8.4”, does anyone actually use SiriusXM Guardian?

I had one of our used cars for a demo the other week and it had Guardian activated..besides that I don’t see too many using it. I’d rather just have more phone integration for that type stuff.

I agree seeing that I forever have Minh mine connect to CarPlay, I’m glad it uses the entire screen.   The worst is no backward capability for CarPlay on 2017 and below Uconnect. I’m trying to get a friend into a Grand Cherokee and he’d prefer CarPlay but it’s tough with a limited budget.

If y’all have an equivalent of ALM or Grand Motorcars, that might be his best bet. Those have a lot of used cars for a low price around here. I’ve found some 2018’s (first year for 4) in the low to mid 20’s.

FCA was weird with the Uconnect 4 launch. The Charger & the Challenger got it for 2017, while the all-new Pacifica got the dated 3. I’m excited about 5, especially with that wireless CarPlay. That’s something only the luxury makers do right now, and it’s something I really wanted in a car at first.

2020 Pacificas are still being made, so it’ll probably be a bit before the 2021 vans roll in.

That’s a random failure, my 15 TDI has had zero issues and it just rolled over to 70k miles. I love it!

Also welcome to OPPO! We’re big fans of VWs around these parts.

Thanks! That has been the only parts failure on mine, which also has roughly 70k miles now. It's been a great car so far!
